Japanese Osama: I Came to Saudi Arabia to Delve into Arabic Poetry

* Why do you choose to learn Arabic، and why in Saudi Arabia؟
- When I enrolled in university in Japan، I had to choose an Asian language to learn it، so I chose The Arabic language due to my interest in the Egyptian antiquities. At first، I was not interested in the Arabic language itself. I was careless of Arabic، and I studied it just for tests. After that، I made a quick visit to Egypt where I knew the Arabic language more than before. Then، I studied at an institute affiliated to the University of Alexandria in 2011. From there، my interest in Arabic started so that I stayed there for a year and a half when one of my teachers suggested that I study Arabic in King Saud University in Riyadh.
* What were the challenges، which faced you in learning Arabic؟
- The biggest challenges were the Arabic grammar and rules because they were deep and many like the sea. Besides pronunciation which is considered a big problem that faces the Japanese learners of Arabic because most of the letters are not identical. Now I study poetry at the university، and I face many deep vocabularies and expressions. The more I delve into the Arabic language، the more I face many challenges. But I enjoy discovering them.
* How do you describe teaching Arabic to the Japanese learners؟
- I teach Arabic at one of the Japanese companies in Riyadh. Frankly، teaching Arabic is not easy due to the wide gap between Japanese and Arabic. But I feel happiness when my students advance. I also feel as if I were an ambassador between Japan and the Arab countries because my students loved the Arabic language through studying it.
* How was the move between Japanese culture and the Saudi culture؟
- When I came to Saudi Arabia، a group of Saudi young people، who were interested in the Japanese culture، helped me merge into the Saudi culture. For example، I did not know how to eat with my hand، but they had taught me how to do that and they helped me know other things.
* How was your view to Saudi Arabia before you live here؟ And how did your view develop؟
- Before I moved to live in Saudi Arabia، I thought that Saudis are strict in a closed society، but when I lived with them closely، I discovered that Saudis are social and very kind people even more than the Japanese. They also love a lot to help others.
* What is the characteristic you like most in Saudi Arabia and its people؟
- I love most that Saudi People respect guests highly، and I feel that they welcome me a lot.
* what are you longing to most in Japan؟
- I am longing most to my family in Japan. As for Japanese food، it is available here a lot in Japanese restaurants in Riyadh.
* How do you preserve your Japanese language without the effects of Arabic language؟
- I have a lot of Japanese friends here in Riyadh where I used to meet them one day every week at the «Samurai Club» of soccer. we used to speak Japanese together beside the Saudis who study the Japanese language at King Saud University. So we speak and exchange languages and cultures with each other.
* How do you describe your recent visit to the Eastern Region؟
Despite that my visit to the Eastern Region was quick، especially Al Ahsaa، I like its nature a lot، and its people are very kind and generous. I hope I can visit and tour it to know it more closely.
